Ho Ho Ho Christmas

Each year I find so much joy in choosing a theme for the gift wrapping. Right around Thanksgiving it's crunch time and I find myself looking for inspiration and something unique to wrap the gifts with.

Here are some of the past themes that I've done.  It's hard to choose a favorite but I think the paint cans really are fun! (photos clickable)

Christmas 2010

This year I was inspired by the old man himself, Santa Claus.  When I was a kid I loved to decorate the Santa shaped cookie with the red suit, white fuzzy trim, and black boots and belt. Our cookie cutter created a silhouette of Santa and he had a sack of toys over his shoulder so I got to make the gifts that were spilling out all different colors too.

Then I would bite his head off and pretend his blood was green. What can I say, boys will be boys.

Anywho...

So to wrap the gifts of course you need red wrapping paper, right?

Then the fuzzy trim inspired this crocheted "ribbon". Take a winter white colored boucle (I used Lion Brand Homespun) and a big hook (like the L hook that is in The Crochet Dude Collection ) and chain the length that you need to wrap around the gift. Then simply work two single crochet in each chain across in order to give it a ruffly effect. That's it just tie it  around the package!

The black boots and belt inspired me to choose a chunky charcoal colored yarn to tie on the jingle bells. I used a combination of shiny and matte bells, as well as little ones for variety.

And this is what a Santa inspired Christmas looks like!

And on a side note. When you are the youngest of eight children it's nearly impossible to believe in Santa Claus. I think they fought over who got to take that away from me and from what I remember I never believed in him. So whichever one of them spilled the beans when i was still in the crib (or the womb even), thanks a lot.

That didn't make Christmas Eve any less exciting though! I don't think I slept the night before Christmas once before I was a teenager.

Do you have your holiday shopping finished?

    Awesome job as usual, Drew!

And this year we got smart and us kids combined our money to get our parents each big gifts. Mom is getting a Nook (brother is ordering it for me) and Dad is getting a model ship to build (just ordered it last night). My niece is getting a couple of cool books related to her interests. I just have to finish my sister's shawl and picking up a few things for my boyfriend. Oh, and ordering a messenger bag for my brother. I got smart and told everyone in April I was not making gifts this year (then I caved and gave my sister her gift early and ended up needing to make her a new shawl).

    Happy holidays!!!

I thought I was all done shopping when MDH (My Dear Husband) told me that he's in the "Secret Santa" program at his workplace and would I PLEASE buy a ladies hat and mittens for him? And then he thought that maybe I could KNIT them quick-a-minute instead! Silly boy. You can imagine the "stink eye" look I gave him.

You always do such a nice holiday.
We are done, wrapped, ready to be delivered to the in-laws, 'cause we leave next week for hula hula land. I'm bringing lace weight fibers to play with on board ship.

Love the trim on those! Sorry about your Santa bubble being burst so young. I remember actually doing the total opposite to my little sister. I remember being so bummed when I found out the truth that I wanted her to believe as long as I could get her to. I made up all kinds of stuff, but eventually, she figured it out!

That is really cool ... and so are the ones from past years.

I'm glad you clearly still have the Christmas spirit, despite your older siblings efforts to the contrary!

I love your themes! I have done the same in recent years and I just love doign it! This year, I had to let my hubby take it over since I'm pregnant with our second and I've been slowed from shopping etc. However, next year, with the two kids, I'm hoping to do some crafts and get back to a themed tree/wrapping adventure for Christmas! Happy holidays!
