Book review - Crochet Prayer Shawls

Leisure Arts has put out a wonderful companion book for anyone who crochets shawls for charity , for themselves, or for gifts!  There are 15 wrap designs in this little hard cover book by some pretty famous crochet rock stars:
  • Kay Meadors
  • Mary E. Nolfi
  • Edie Eckman
  • Jill Wright
  • Lisa Gentry
  • Rochelle Johnson
  • Jeannine LaRoche
  • Becky Stevens
  • Tamara Gonzales
  • Karen Rattoo-Whooley
  • Darla Sims
  • Jean Leinhauser
And for some reason they asked me to participate too. So here is what I contributed, a textured rectangular wrap that is perfect for anyone who needs a little comfort.

While You Are Healing

All in all I think this a great book. The spiral bound pages make it so easy to lay the patterns flat and work from them. The hard cover and 5 x 8 size make it easy to drop the book in your craft bag and take it with you. The photos are clear and there are close ups of the projects so you can see the stitch combinations even better. The variety also makes the book quite nice. There are rectangle shawls, triangles shawl, long ones and short ones, casual ones and dressier ones.

Very nice. I participate in a prayer shawl group crocheting by hand and knitting on my Bond USM. This looks like a beautiful pattern. It's nice to get some variety. Thank you!

Gorgeous, Drew! I'll have to pick up this book. Comfort shawls are some of my favorite things to crochet.

I have an afghan that is over 35 years old, not a prayer shawl, but..My mom made the squares, after she passed on, I put the squares altogether. I now have it as a keepsake and a reminder of my mom and how much she loved to crochet. guess I took after her.

Very pretty! Would look nice in black too for a dressy evening out. I'd add little black sequins on the rows in-between the long extended single crochets.

Just wanted to let you know that I'm making your shawl from this book and I love, love, love it! The triple triples are a blast to make - I get excited every time I get to that row. And the overall pattern is just right to be able to do without constantly referring to the pattern and yet not be bored by too much repetition. I've made a bunch of different care shawls for my Unitarian church group and I see myself returning to this one again and again in the future.

    I think you're awesome
