Free purse pattern: Pink Ribbin'

My friends over at Wright's let me have some breast cancer awareness pink ribbon appliques so I could do a giveaway (it's October dontcha know - breast cancer awareness month!).  But then I thought, wouldn't it be cool to also give away a pattern for a pink purse?  In that spirit I just designed this little ditty that I'm calling "Pink Ribbing" - (get it? pink ribbon - pink ribbin).  Anywho....

You can download the pattern here for free:  Pink Ribbing by The Crochet Dude

Show Your Support

Now for the second part of the giveaway.  You can enter to win all these applique's AND also the exact handle that I used for the Pink Ribbing purse so you can make your own too!

Here is how to enter:  no purchase is necessary to enter, however you do have to download my free purse pattern (which requires registration to fool the Innernet robots that are trying to ruin everything for the rest of us.  I'm just saying.)  Anywho. When you download my pattern Lulu sends you a thank-you email from me.  Simply forward me that email to show that you downloaded the pattern and voila, you are entered!

Just shoot me now. Lulu changed how they do the download you no longer have to register to get free patterns there, and therefore there is no receipt to send me. Soooooooo, just leave a comment (BE SURE TO INCLUDE YOUR EMAIL ADDY PLEASE) and tell me what cause(s) is important to you and how you support it!

I will close the contest in one week so enter soon!

I've met so many cancer survivors lately in the fiber arts world, it's a pleasure to know what more and more types of cancers are being bested! Cancer is an equal opportunity threat!

I support Breast Cancer Research as breast cancer is in my family of origin. I lost my adoptive foster to lung cancer as well as recently lost a very dear friend to cancer. Recently Cindy Moore, also a cancer survivor, got designers together to design a calendar of dishcloths, where the money was to go to breast cancer. We published it at http://www.knitpink.com/ This lovely calendar was published in Oct. of 2008 and donated over $1300 to Breast Cancer Research. We are doing the same thing again this year and I am honored to be a designer involved again. I am also volunteering at the CIBC (Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce) Run for the Cure this Sunday. We are also supporting my husband grandson in the The Great Hair Masacure in February. As you can see we are huge supporters of the cause.

The cause close to my heart is diabetes and related kidney failure. My dear husband who is only 36 has had type one diabetes since he was 12 and more recently been diagnosed with kidney failure. I have not come up with anything as unique as writing a pattern to honor my cause and have just done the standard donations and spreading of the word....but I am inspired to design something after seeing your donation above. Gray represents diabetes and I believe green represents kidney disease. Thanks for the spark of inspiration. I'll have to let you know what I come up with!

I adopted a kitten 3 years ago and can't imagine why anyone would have treated her the way I was told she was treated. Thanks for another great give away Drew. You my friend ROCK!!!

Breast Cancer research really hits close to home with me because a year ago, I had a scare where my doctor saw something in my mammogram that she thought may have been cancerous. It was about a month before I could schedule a follow-up ultrasound to see if I needed to have a biopsy done. Fortunately for me, it was nothing more than internal bruising (I fence - but not olympic style). Still, it was enough to drive the point home, as it were.

October is really Women's Health Awareness Month, and breast cancer is only one disease that primarily affects women. Lupus also uses October to increase awareness of a debilitating condition that usually, but not always, strikes women. For years I have given away small purple ribbons that I have made to increase awareness. When I was selling Mary Kay products, I gave 10% of my sales, not profits, to the Lupus Foundation during the month of Oct. Unfortunately, several of mu friends have been struck with breast cancer so I do support 3 different Relay for Lifes every year, in CA, FL and KS.

    Great bag, Drew!

I'm a big advocate for breast cancer awareness, ever since I found a lump nearly a decade ago that was removed. Lucky for me, it was benign. I have a few crochet items in my own store to help raise money to donate to my local race against breast cancer. When I can, I participate in the race as well.

My CGOA chapter also supports various charities with our gifting, including our local breast cancer race. We will donate blankets, hats, & scarves to our VA Hospital and another organization that helps people in need. We try to donate to other charities as they arise throughout the year as well.

I also personally have a friend who died from breast cancer and I have another friend who is a survivor. Cancer runs on both sides of my family (in fact, my dad goes for surgery Oct. 21 for prostate cancer). My dad and my 2 step-cousins are all that is left in my dad's family.

    My cause: Project Linus www.projectlinus.org

Our blankets go to local hospitals, cancer centers, children’s services, homeless shelter that house children. I’m sure you get the idea, our list of places who need blankets is long. The children are from preemie babies you young adults.

There are two causes that are near and dear to my heart: breast cancer awareness/research and support for parents of preemies. I have two very close friends who are breast cancer survivors. One is only 3 years out but my second friend is a 15 yr survivor.

And, support for parents of preemies is important to me because many people in the infertility community have dealt with premature babies. I was blessed that my preemie was only 4 weeks early and didn't have any complications but that isn't true for many people.

I used to volunteer at my local library teaching crochet as a free service and reading books to the mentally ill until my life took a strange and sharp turn. One of my own daughters became in need of a doctors care because of mental illness. We are now helping to bring up her son and at this point, I guess volunteering at our local HeadStart and all that goes into the workings of family, are now my cause. It's seems true, sometimes we may pick our cause and sometimes it may pick us.

Oooops, I forgot to tell you how I support cancer. As many people are aware, I am a medical foster parent and I started making blankets for the children in the medical foster program. My goal is to make sure no child leaves the program without their own blanket. Throughout having this special little girl in my life to care for I have met several young children with cancer and have started to donate blankets to these children as well. It's amazing to see young children so resiliant who fight so hard while us adults are the ones who seem to crumble under the weight of it all! I am also starting to make chemo caps and snugglies (small cuddle blankies) for 2-3 year olds to cuddle with while they receive their chemo.

I belong to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal order of Eagles. We raise money for 18 different charities every year. My main charity is Alzheimer's, I have a 50's dance and silent auction. This is my 5th year and each year it just gets bigger and better. The crowd loves to dress up and to out bid their friends on the silent auction. We start as soon as we done gathering items for te auction and it is an all year thing. Everyone has a good time and can't wait for the next one. We have raffles and parties all year long for different charities. Our state president just recently had breast cancer so this is very near and dear to us as well. Keep up the good work I love your designs.

    Hi Drew,
Thank you so much for this great free pattern. I already have pink yarn and will be making this soon. I support Breast Cancer Research and Awareness through participation in my golf leagues and special outings. I will make this purse and donate it for a door prize at one of our outings next year. My mother died of breast cancer nineteen years ago so this cause is very dear and near to my heart. Thanks again for the free pattern.

First of all, a Big Thanks for all you do!
Is the pattern no longer available? I tried and tried to download, but finally got an error message that the file was damaged. Either that or Lulu is not mac/safari-friendly? I'd love to know if there is another site to download from as it would be perfect for a new girlfriend who just lost her mom to cancer.
