Book Review: Eco-Craft by Susan Wasinger
I did get back from CHA with two stacks of books, some new, some new in paperback, and I'm going to review the ones that I love so much that I need to talk to someone about them. First on the list is a book called Eco Craft by the lovely Susan Wasinger. Included are "30 eco-friendly projects for your home". Now I've seen a LOT of recycleintocrafts books out there, and while some are just silly when it comes down to it, Eco Craft takes the "recrafting" movement to a new level of amazingness!

The author very quickly helps to heal the "eco-guilt" that a lot of us are feeling as we become more aware of the effect our day to day living has on the world. And she shows how to take ordinary items that we would normally throw away or put in the recycle bin and turn them into eye candy. So I was excited to discover that there are projects in this book that once completed would make an incredible addition to my home's decor. For example the room divider made out of plastic six pack holders looks like something you would buy at Crate & Barrel! Literally.
And for each project Ms. Wasinger has a little box that tells you what materials will be needed, the skill set used, and how much time it should take to complete, helping to plan your eco-strategy.
I swear that I've seen the Milk-jug Pendants at Ikea (and by "seen" I mean that I've bought them retail, brought them home, put them together and STILL they don't look any more designer than the ones in this book.) In fact, because I can customize the recycled ones for exactly where I need them the creative possibilities are endless!
I could literally go on and on about all the projects included. I haven't been this excited about a book since, well, since Designs for Guys first came out! Here is my list of the first projects that I want to try from Eco Craft:

Drew, you're the only eye candy I ever need.
(Sorry, had to)
And I actually had a woman come to my Crafts and Draughts last summer with a plastic grocery bag tote design that she wanted to make. Too kewl!
