I may need help.
I'm supposed to be working on this project (all photos clickable):
But I think I'm officially addicted to one of my own patterns...is that so wrong? It all started when my friends from North Carolina were in town for the book launch and quilt show here in Houston, and I wanted a small project I could work on for fun while we sat around and chatted. So I broke out some new yarn from Crystal Palace and made the Calvarium Skullcap from my book. The pattern is fun because you can use any weight yarn and any size hook - so you can grab some hank that you have been wondering what to do with and make a great hat out of it.
Yarn: Crystal Palace "Taos"
Color: Cacao Menta
Pattern: Calvarium Skullcap from Designs for Guys
Time: 2 hours and there may or may not have been wine involved
Purpose: holiday gift
But since it went so fast and we went yarn shopping and I found this gorgeous yarn that looked like chocolate covered cherries to me, I had to go ahead and make this one:
Yarn: Muench Naturwolle
Color: Unknown (can't find the band because of yarn gnome infestation)
Pattern: Calvarium Skullcap from Designs for Guys
Time: Unknown due to 10 hours yarn shopping while hungover followed by more wine
Purpose: further enable my addiction
And of course now the addiction is official and so I'm pulling out yarn that I only have a hank of and making more and more of these hats. I may have to have a give away soon.
And for Yarntopia in Katy where we had the book launch party I'm going to finish up this striped version as a sample for their shop:

If you don't hear from me in the next week or so I may be locked in my bedroom uncontrollably making these hats. Hats. Must. Make. More. Hats.

You crack me up. I can empathize. On so many small projects I fully intend to explore new stitch patterns and yet seem to always fall back into my most favorite. A simple alternating single crochet / double crochet works up as a fabric that appears so much more complex. Please try it and let me know what you think.

You poor dear. I know how you feel. I've made over 27 little coin purses. I don't even know 27 people I haven't already given the darn things to and I still can't seem to stop. The first one is on my ravelry page. But I may have to switch to your hat, Christmas hats for everybody!!!! OK it may be time for my medicine!

lol Lately, I've been doing the same with fingerless handwarmers. And there hasn't...hardly...almost...been very much wine involved.

I forwarded the post to my hubby about the hat, turns out he wants one. Yeah! He also want the Free Digits as well. I am waiting for the book to arrive in my hot little hand.

Whoa. Yarn gnomes. I think I have them too.
I'm stuck in Amigurumi land. Not even as useful as hats. Just silly.

Wait one minute here what the heck!!! Is that CROCHETED?! Be right back. Gonna take another look. UP CLOSE.... OK, I'm back. Not to be nosy just talking out loud. The stitch looks like knit on the outside BUT does look like crochet inside. Some kinda single crochet post maybe. Lord whatever it is what a super fast way to enjoy delish yarn. Yes? I do not have your book as yet (what a crushing blow!) but I'm waiting for the chance to spring on my prey for the perfect "Christmas Gift". Oh yes indeed.
Uhhhh, as for the addiction, you've got only yourself to blame for that, sir. Some things go with the territory. Simply must be bourne up with. Stiff upper lip and all that. But the truth, really? If I were you I'd be just as mesmerized! The stitch is fascinating to look upon, to say the least. What fun! Enjoy!
