Studio Tweakage
As post hurricane cleanup in my studio is getting pretty well finished I decided to go ahead and solve one of the little issues that I've never, let's say, enjoyed about the location. This photo shows what I mean:
I took the photo standing next to my desk and if you look through that door, you'll see the laundry room. But if you'll look closer just inside the door on the floor you'll see that that is where the cat pan is. Those of my friends that have cats know exactly why this isn't the ideal creative atmosphere for The Dude. (It apparently is ideal for Chandler and Cleo because according to one cat sitter, they are VERY active in the cat box department. I'm so proud....anywho.)
The Solution
So yesterday I went down to Lowe's and got myself a cat door kit (about $25). It was super simple to install and works great and now I can close that door. It will take some time to get the girls accustomed to it but knowing them, it should be no problem. Stay tuned though...mayhem may ensue.

I have a big weekend planned. If by "big weekend" I mean that I'm going to be bagging storm debris along the west side of the house for two days. It's the last yard that needs clean up and although I've removed 5 large bags already, I've barely made a dent. On the bright side, my jeans have been fitting better than ever! Hooray!
For now I'll leave you with some links to some neat crafty stuff I've found around the Innernets:

we just got out babies that same door! we put ours out to the garage because anytime we had to go out there, it was always a fight to get the back inside (like when doing laundry and junk). So we thought unlimited access would take the appeal away from the place. So we stuck it in and now they can do all the garage dwelling their little hearts desire.
I'll tell you though, until I got used to the sound of them going through it, it used to wake me up and scare the crap out of me at night (we took the little magnet thing out of it so they could get through it easier but that also means it swings back and forth a bit after they use it.)

Hi Liz! Thanks so much for commenting. I've been thinking about taking out the magnet because Miss Chandler is very delicate and doesn't enjoy the headbutting it takes to open anything (she'll walk through curtains, etc, but can't get out of a closed cupboard - Miss Cleo however just plows through anything - although she still claims to be quite delicate). I'm glad to know that removing the magnet works.

We put a cat door in a couple of months ago for our cats. I love it. Now when they want outside any time of day or night they can do it themselves. No more waking me up in the middle of the night. By the way we have 5 cats.

I used a cat door for my cats years ago as access to their litter box. I propped (I think with duct tape) the door open and started with a trail of treats. I had treats leading up to the door, treats laying on the ledge of the inside of the door and then treats near the cat pan. Did not take long for them to learn. Worked really well. In a couple of days I could untape the door and they jumped on in to the litter box. Judy

O.K. I just gotta ask. I've met Cleo in person, and really, truly, does she fit through that door? Please don't tell her I said that!
