Is THAT what rain looks like?

Thanks for the positive feedback on the podcast and recent videocast.  It's a lot of fun to do something spontaneous and unrehearsed like that so I'm glad that y'all are enjoying it too.  I put up a list on my studio wall so when ideas pop into my head on subjects I could video I can note them down for later.  Stay tuned!

Storms a Brewin'

I made it back from Corpus Christi in one piece... one wet soggy piece, but one piece nonetheless.  I was happily driving along the coast, stopping for seafood at cool local dives and generally in no real rush to get home.

Gulf of Mexico

Then I saw this out of my car window:

It's raining over there

That my friends is what a rainstorm looks like from a distance, and it was heading right for me.  Sure enough within a half hour it was raining so hard I had to stop at a little restaurant and have tres leches while I waited out the storm.  Not so bad after all.

On The Crochet Front

I just made my Monday morning to-do list.  It's not quite as demanding as it has been in the last few months; I guess I'm getting caught up on all my commitments.  It's a nice feeling.  A couple of weeks ago I decided to make an overall to-do list to see what exactly I could commit to in the future as far as work, maybe a vacation, visit my siblings, etc.  The list started to grow quite rapidly.  Being semi-organized I figured categorizing the list would make it easier to maintain.

I had 39 categories.

That means that on any given day I could have one or more "to-do's" in each category, you do the math.  That's a whole lotta spreading of this dude-butter, and could explain why sometimes I feel spread too thin.  So I decided to try a different approach.

Instead of making another to-do list that would most likely make me want to go to Starbuck's to see if they are hiring, or pretend that I won the lotto, or book an extra EXTRA long vacation, I decided to make a "to-quit" list.  And it was actually easier than I thought it would be.  I simply got out my RED sharpie marker and started crossing off categories that made me feel blecky when I thought about them.  Because why in the world would I commit to anything that falls under a category that feels blecky?

"Blecky" is a scientific term btw.  Or it should be.

Anywho....there were PLENTY of categories left that don't make me feel blecky so that I'm not going to be sitting on the sofa eating bon-bons and watching daytime television anytime soon.  Not that there's anything wrong with that.  I'm just saying that I'll be just as busy but busy with commitments that I'm thrilled to make, happy to fulfill, and satisfied to cross of my to-do list.

The result of my to-quit list, I'm finding, is that while my to-do list today may be shorter, it gets me more motivated than before and I can see how focusing my mental energy down positive pathways may just might make the day more fun.

And isn't life too short to feel blecky?

Wow, 39 categories! It sounds like it was definitely time to get rid of some bleck! The to-quit list is a great idea--I think I'll try it.

Drew, I SO agree with you - life is too short to do what makes you feel blechy! I have projects I LIKE to do now, and either frogged others or tossed them completely.
Enjoy your growing list of accomplishments!

Oh! Why didn't I think of that before? I always have a mental to-do list, and I'm gonna start crossing the blecky things off altogether. For instance, I just told my D.H. that he should not allow me to EVER AGAIN accept another ghost writing gig. Ever. Again. Blecky.

    I'm so there with you.
