Summertime Blues (and greens)

Is summer really almost over?  Can it be that within weeks the schools will be full of children once again, the leaves will start turning color and the pressure to make the perfect Halloween costume will be here?  Don't even get me started about certain gift giving holidays this year; I'm planning to pretend that they don't exist. Denial goes a long way when you are short on time!

I actually enjoy cooler days, in fact now that I think about it that's how it's always been.  I was never the go sit on the beach with my friends type back in high school.  Hello, red hair, see-through skin, and the sun do not go together harmoniously.  I'm more of a throw on a sweater and jeans and a hat and gloves and go walking through the snow kinda dude.  Do you think it will snow in Houston this year?

How badly hot is it to find oneself on August 15th thinking of snow.  What do you mean I have the first batch of projects including five complete sweaters due to my editor by the end of the month?  I have no idea what you are talking about. The Gift That Keeps On Giving

Last year for my birthday my good friends KevConJer gifted me with this wonderful gob of roving (are rovings gobs called "gobs"?).

I had thought about felting it, or crocheting with it which I've seen some amazing items crocheted from roving that look like pieces of pottery or paintings, but then my friend Jeanne looked at me a few weeks ago and with a look of an addict going through withdrawals said "do you have anything you need me to spin, spin, I must spin, I've run out of roving to spin, spin" (I'm paraphrasing, but you get the picture).  And who am I to not feed someone's apparent addiction?  I passed the very brightly colored roving over to Jeanne and look at the magic that happened!

Isn't it amazing how the colors blended so beautifully and came out this rich color?  Here are the stats:

Roving: Grafton Fibers
Spun by: Jeanne
Ply: 2
Yardage: 254 yds

Thanks Jeanne!  I love it!!

And now that I'm in TEXAS... it's hot and humid, and I'm checking out the trees for signs that Fall is coming!

I'm dying for some cool weather, too. Remind us again why you live in Houston?

Just a quick note to tell you that I finished the grocery bag holder and I must say I enjoyed the pattern. Error free which you don't find every day. You've inspired me to start designing.

That yarn is Gorgeous! I would have a spinning addiction if I ever learned how. And if my cats (male) get that close together, the fur would fly! I would like to put on a sweater and jeans and walk through fallen leaves. Lalalanosnowlala...

Ok, now, this is bass-akwards. Why do *you* live in Houston when you enjoy cooler weather and snow, and why do *I* live in Michigan when I HATE COLD WEATHER AND SNOW!!! Care to trade, Drew? You can do crochet in the snow, too, ya' know!

Snow in Houston, it could happen. Right now I would like to avoid too much rain from the newest Tropical Storm - Erin.

Love what the gob turned into. Can't wait to see what it grows up to be.

The kids went back to school here two days ago... as for cooler weather? Not likely, until October (if we're lucky!). Its not unusual to have 100F+ on Halloween here in ye olde Phoenix. YUCK!

Wow that roving turned out even more beautiful after it was spun. Yummy! What are you going to make with it? A throw pillow perhaps?

I'm going to the Michigan Fiber Arts Festival this Sunday and I just know that I'll spend much time glassy-eyed watching the spinners work their magic. Someday I'm gonna learn how to spin. But tomorrow I'm gonna have my very first guitar lesson. Woo hoo!

I thought I was the only one wishing for summer to be over. I love Fall - especially the colors. Interesting I too have the red hair and the white skin, so maybe that's why I'm also more of a cold weather person.
