The Big Debut!
This morning at 11:30am eastern time (Hi Amie!) will be the first time I am on national television on purpose. I didn't sleep hardly at all last night which is ironic because I wasn't really nervous at all to go out to sunny downtown Burbank California to do the taping last fall but now that it will out there for everyone to see..... Cavemen ate Godiva chocolates, right? Oh good, because that's been my source of calm for the last three hours....I'll go back to buffalo at lunch....
Here are two extreme closeups of designs that I'm hoping to get shipped out this afternoon. It's actually one design that will be worked up with five different fibers. L.O.V.E. the red one because it has beads right along with the fiber (you'll probably have to click the thumbnail to be able to see the beads well). You can get a fantastic result with no extra threading of beads. How cool is that? It's called Moda Dea Beadnik (click the name to see the other cool colors it comes in). The other yarn is that self-shading Tweedle Dee that I've been having a fling with for the last couple of months. I can't get enough of this yummy yarniness!!!

Seriously, it was fantastic to meet so many great people from around the country (and Mexico!) who stood in line to get an autographed copy of the book. And I love just how many of them had pictures of their dogs on their cellphones at the ready to show us! If you make an item from the book please email it to me because we are setting up a gallery of finished items on our website (which is still under construction but will feature full-length interviews with men who knit from all over as well as a finished item gallery).

Hi Laura! San Diego was great and I would have been happy to take your book with me. I'm trying very hard to get Annie to do a TX tour of her workshops sometime (stay tuned) and you could get an autograph while she's in town. Fingers crossed!

i'm crushed. i just found out i have to take my daughter to work, and i'll be missing the program. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! is there going to be a rerun any time?

Don't worry about it at all. Historically they rerun these episodes over and over so just check your local listings! If I know that one of the episodes is being rerun I'll try and include it in a blog post.

Hi, Drew! I came online to pull up your blog to show my little girl that I really did know who that Crochet Dude was on Uncommon Threads this morning! I didn't even know you were going to be on there, but I passed by the TV and saw your face! "Hey! That's Drew!" And here I see it's your most recent post... your national debut! How awesome to see you on TV! You look great and not TOO nervous. ha ha! I'm so proud of you!

Hi Drew! Congrats on your debut! I am heartbroken that HGTV in Canada is not putting this show on! Perhaps they will get wise to it and run the show up here eventually!

Thanks Kiki! HGTV just this month moved the show from their lesser known DIY Network to HGTV so this is a big deal. Now that it is on HGTV here perhaps they will start showing it in Canada soon! Hope so!!

Drew! I can NOT thank you enough. i was a on and off again lurker of your site until the other day when i commented about trying to find an all-soy yarn. (i also recently added myself to your newsletter) and through your comment back about SWTC and an email about your tv broadcast, i've found two wonderful tv shows (Knitty Gritty, with the WONDERFULLY cute Vickie Howell, and Uncommon Threads), as well as a nearby yarn store which carries all the yarns i'd been DREAMING of!! and THEN (there's MORE!) i also found, through Vickie's blog - which i found through YOUR blog, a local S'n'B group that meets every week only a couple miles from my home!!
Seriously. If you were here in AZ, i would give you a giant hug! You're my hero!
Can't wait to see you "in action" today...the DVR is set!

Hey Drew - I just watched the show and you look great! Not a bit nervous, even. So why don't we get the gelled hair and fancy shirts at SnB?
I can see how the show was a whole western theme, but I wish they could have done more crochet with you guys. Ahh, next time I suppose.

Congratulations! Loved the show! You, Amie and Pam did great! You showed the proper amount of interest in the projects, especially considering how Boring the saddle stool cover was. You also did a fabulous job hammering the grommet, lol. I would have enjoyed the show much more had one of you three had more input, rather than the host hogging the majority of the show. JMO. Can't wait to see the next shows in March. I hope to see more of you then.

Hi Drew! I found you when I saw the show this morning and then came to look for you guys on the net. I really liked the show and am looking forward to the other two episodes you'll be in. My friend and I just picked up knitting needles & crochet hooks for the 1st time in maaaaany years, about 6 weeks ago. We love finding so much inspiration and so many fun patterns on TV and the net. You go guy!

Thanks Risha! I love that jacket. It was a Christmas gift and I get a lot of compliments on it. But what's cool is that it's that new microsuede material that looks like suede, but it's waterproof and you can just pop it in the washing machine!
I still have a long way to go in the industry so I will be blogging the adventure of trying to break in for a good while!

You didn't look disinterested once, I kept hoping to see your look that made everyone laugh. Too bad Allison's project took so long, though it was kinda cool. I loved Pam's hat and purse. I've already printed out the directions for the hat. Can't wait for the other episodes to really get to see you in action !
